    About this Product

Yu-Yun Hsiao has studied scent research of orchid since 1998. She has focused on investigating the site of scent emissions, composition, biosynthesis pathway and its critical enzymes of orchids that contribute to scent production. Prior to this study, the biosynthetic pathways of orchid flower fragrance were not well understood. Little was known about the enzymes and genes controlling scent production in monocotyledons such as orchids. This study has described a strategy that contains a combination of chemical analyses, genomics and bioinformatics to uncover the scent biosynthesis pathway and the relevant genes in P. bellina flowers. In conclusion, these approaches demonstrate the opportunity to study floral scent in the non-model plants such as orchids, and moreover, to accelerate molecular breeding in the orchid industry.
